Any
day at Harralson Donkey Hollow is a great day! For us the event started
earlier than others, although many of you traveled to make the trip.
We
began the day shearing Smokey Joe our mammoth jack baby. Yes, his ears
are longer than most and he is only 6 months old. After that we began to
harness fit Peanut. Now if you remember a couple years back, I wrote an
article about bottle feeding a baby. Well, Peanut is that baby.
His mom is a small mammoth jennet and his dad was a fly by night unknown.
Peanut has been to Farm Fest 2 years and may go again this year, and be driven
around the grounds. He was successfully harness trained and we found out
he hates to have his ears touched. That one proves to be a problem with
harness. This has to be something he has acquired at his mature age,
because we did everything with Peanut but let him in the house. After
successfully harnessing Peanut, we sat down to a meal of hotdogs and what ever
other food arrived. And by the way Curt Harralson was allowed to
celebrate his birthday with friends, and he did not even know we were doing
so.
Dee
brought Vader, so we
drove Vader and Shadow during the afternoon. New interested friends,
from
Aurora
, came over to see what it was all about. Come to find out they had
purchased a baby from Karen Cottingham, but after we successfully got her
husband and daughter in a cart, she smiled. She emailed me a thank you
and let me know they (the whole family) were hooked! Isn’t it grand to
share our love with new found friends?
Our
grandson Hunter thought it was a great day, as he giggled and laughed and
showed off for everyone who would pay attention.
Fun
was had by those who attended; it is usually a slow day at our house, never
much going on!
Anyhow,
our intent is to make the spring event an annual event. We would also
like to make it a Donkey Necessity Swap Day. In that I mean, we think it
would be an excellent idea for us to plan an event where people brought extra
harness, or parts, or equine necessities that they might want to trade or swap
with others. I don’t think that goes on anywhere else, so it would be
my question to the association to possibly take that idea and run with it.
Harralson Donkey Hollow would be open to the idea being featured at their
farm, or a city park near by if that is better. In any event I think it
is worthy of being hashed over.
For
now, we are knee deep in hay, we harvest our own. Thank God it is a
banner year, and the predictions are it is not going to be a year of drought.
But, for those who buy hay, please get your hay lined up for the winter now
and prepare ahead. We do not have any extra to sell, and will use all we
have.
Have
a great spring, we will see many of you at the Fair in
Springfield
, if not at the Fair in
Sedalia
, and perhaps if you have missed those events you will come to the Ozark Event
over Labor Day Weekend. And of course I have already sent in my
application for Farm Fest. I have the most relaxed fun there.
Happy
trails enjoy your new babies!

Camdenton Dogwood Festival
April 21,2007
Hello there,
Here we are in Camdenton at 9am waiting to
group with all the other donkey people. The parade starts at 10 o’clock but
our number is 90 so we have a little wait. So we can do more talking donkey
till then. We will be coming in towards the end, behind a band and before the
horse’s.
This is my first parade
and a few others too. I tell you, I was so excided on doing this. My daughter
Stacy and her husband Cody came along to help and they walked my two donkeys,
Cheyenne and Roxy. Vicki Sherman and I are ahead of the group and Vicki
carries the MMDBA banner.
We have a total of 14
donkeys and us. That was great! Jerry and Vicki Pegelow brought two of their
donkeys and Jerry drives a cart with one and Vicki walks the other. Vicki has
made attachments of flowers on their halters. That is too cute, she says a bee
was even after them. Kurt and Vicki Sherman are here, with their sorrel jack,
he is such a gentleman. Max and Dee Keithley have their two jacks pulling
carts. They are such well-behaved guys! Leroy and Joyce Rogers are here with
their two grandkids Melinda & Caitlin Young and their friend. They have
three little donkeys. Joyce went all out and dressed her donkeys in costumes!
As we get in line to go,
you should see the donkeys! There are all kinds of noises the band playing,
fire trucks horns blowing and the noise from the crowd. All the donkeys’
ears are up and they are all looking, who knows what they are thinking? But
you know they are all doing great!
The people just love them
you can hear “Oh look mom, how cute”. They are coming up to you and asking
if they can pet the donkeys. You can’t help but say “Sure you can!”
We all are having such a
great time, and a good reaction from the people! This is my first parade and
if you haven’t done this before you need to try it just once! It is great
fun!
I say thanks to all our
members that came out to the parade and of course I can’t forget the
donkeys!
Who knows we might see
you all next year!

I
arrived around 8:30 am to find trucks, trailers along with people and donkeys
at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. It was a cold and blistery day but I was
warmed by Members greetings and donkey hugs!
Jeannie
presented an excellent clinic!
Annual
Meeting
January
27, 2007

This
year MMDBA annual meeting was held again at the Camdenton fire station. We want
to thank Joyce Rogers again this year for helping us out. Also thank you to the
people at the fire station for letting us have our meeting there.
I
arrived a little after eleven and the donkey talking was already started. It was
nice to see everyone there. Well noon came and Dee had to call a time out with
donkey talking to see if anyone was ready to eat. Believe me you should see all
the good food that was there. It was quite tasty.

Dee
announced that if anyone needed to pay there due’s to go ahead before the
meeting starts.
At
one o’clock the meeting came to order. Dee introduced our new board members
Carol Dale dose our book keeping and records, Cheryl Klund takes care of
membership due’s. Carol
Dale read the 2006 minutes.
Dee gave a report for Becky Winters, was unable to attend the meeting Dee
announced that Becky was taking temporary leave of absence. Will miss you Becky.
Members should submit their ads and articles to Dee Keithley.
Cheryl
Klund has volunteered to chair the 2007 fun show in Becky’s absence. The Fun
Show dates were announced. Dee went over with the members on trying to find a
judge for the fun show. Members voted to have Jim Sell back as the judge for
this year.
I
gave a report on t-shirt sales and raffle.
Cheryl
gave a membership report and had on the tables for members to see the breeders
list.
We
had a lot of new business to go over with the members: the state fair changes,
trying to work on something for the Ozark Empire Fair, Raffle Items, having a
class held by Jeannie Richards.
Questionnaires
were passed out to each member to fill out.

Joyce
Rogers gave info on Camdenton’s Dogwood Festival for some of us to come out
with our donkeys and join in the parade.
The
election of board members; ballots were passed out, on the ballot were board
members, proposed amendments 1,2,3 and dues by the calendar year. The members
passed all unanimously.

I
just wanted to say thanks to all the members who came out for the annual meeting
and if you were unable to attend this year I hope you, your family and your
donkeys are well. I hope to see you all at some events this year.
Thanks
Karen
